"We cannot do everything
and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that.

This enables us to do something,
and to do it very well.

It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way,

an opportunity for God's grace to enter and do the rest."

-Archbishop Oscar Romero

Voices’ mission is to promote sustainable and equitable development in El Salvador. In service of this mission, we have identified three main objectives:

  1. Foster long-term, mutually beneficial relationships of solidarity between communities and organizations in the U.S. and communities and organizations in El Salvador;

  2. Accompany Salvadorans who are working at the community, regional, and national levels for greater citizen participation, equality, and better living conditions; and

  3. Educate people in the U.S. about the Salvadoran reality and the impacts of U.S. foreign and domestic policy.

To accomplish these objectives, we:

  1. Contribute to empowering a well-organized and aware Salvadoran citizenry in the departments of Morazán and Usulután;

  2. Encourage reciprocal relationships between Salvadoran and U.S. partner communities;

  3. Institutionally and financially strengthen regional organizations that are working for greater citizen participation, equality, and better living conditions;

  4. Support community-based, alternative economic initiatives to combat the cycle of poverty;

  5. Contribute to the development and implementation of community-based, alternative initiatives for economic production;

  6. Support initiatives for mitigating vulnerability to natural phenomena and respond to emergencies provoked by vulnerability;

  7. Accompany partners to demand basic services and respect for human rights guaranteed in the Salvadoran Constitution and recognized by international agreements; and

  8. Support small, community-based service delivery projects while contributing to the orientation of beneficiaries around state obligations
