La Catorce is the newest community in the Lower Lempa – founders settled there in 2003 after spending many years wandering from community to community. In a relatively short period of time, La Catorce has built a sanitation system, a community center, a school, homes, and other infrastructure. They continue to struggle however to meet their daily needs. The main economic activity in La Catorce is agriculture.
Though La Catorce does not have a partner relationship with a community in the U.S., Voices has funded a number of small initiatives and community gatherings over the past few years. This is a community with numerous development needs and we’d like to support them as much as possible.
