Throughout the years Voices has supported women's cattle cooperatives in our partner communities. Agricultural production, livestock specifically, is the primary economic activity in the Lower Lempa. To ensure that women, who are often the head of household, are able to participate in the agricultural and economic life of their community, Voices has partnered with domestic and foreign organizations to support and finance women’s cooperatives that promote individual responsibility, self-awareness, and self-confidence among women throughout the region.

Edith's Cows

Through our U.S. partner communities we are raising funds for the women's cattle cooperative micro-lending project managed by United Communities. Since 2006, Horizons of Friendship and others have provided United Communities' staff with the training they need to manage micro-loans, which includes reviewing and approving applications for loans; signing contracts with women approved for a loan, distributing funds, and collecting repayments over the term of the agreement. The first loans were distributed in April 2008.

If you would like to donate to the micro-loan program, you may contact Thomas R. Hughes at: voices@votb.org or call 202-529-2912.
